The religious system of China, its ancient forms, evolution, history and present aspect, manners, custom and social institutions connected therewith
A six-volume ethnographic study of Chinese funerary rites, ancestor worship and demonology by the Dutch sinologist J. J. M. de Groot, published by E. J. Brill in Leyden from 1892 for European scholars. The plates are line redrawings of Chinese woodcuts: tiled roofs, latticed windows, gnarled willows and pines, corpses, demons and crowds of villagers with poles, all in even unshaded outline.
