The religious system of China, its ancient forms, evolution, history and present aspect, manners, custom and social institutions connected therewith
A six-volume ethnographic study of Chinese religion, burial rites, demonology and ancestor worship, written by Dutch sinologist J. J. M. de Groot and published by E. J. Brill in Leyden from 1892 for European scholars. The plates reproduce Daoist talismans and charm scripts as tall black brush-drawn glyphs, built from stacked bars, loops, coiled tails and chains of small circles and dots, useful as vertical ornament, monogram structure or sigil-like mark-making reference.
