Remarks on Mr. John Fitch's reply to Mr. James Rumsey's pamphlet
A 1788 pamphlet by Joseph Barnes, printed in Philadelphia by Joseph James, arguing against John Fitch in the dispute with James Rumsey over claims to steamboat invention, addressed to legislators and the technical public of the early republic. The only pictures are repeated scans of a single oval ownership mark: interlaced script initials in white line against a dense stippled ground, ringed by a laurel or wheat-ear wreath, useful as a monogram medallion, seal frame, or small badge device.
