Remarks on rural scenery : with twenty etchings of cottages, from nature : and some observations and precepts relative to the pictoresque
A treatise on picturesque cottage scenery by the London engraver and antiquary John Thomas Smith, published in 1797 with text by Joseph Downes for artists and amateurs drawing from nature. Twenty etchings show thatched and tiled cottages sinking under trees, drawn with dense flicked line and open sky, useful for textures of decaying roofs, ivy-covered walls, broken paling fences and woodland foliage.
