An antiquarian treatise on ancient architecture by Johann Joachim Winckelmann, translated into French by Hendrik Jansen and published in Paris in 1783 for scholars, collectors and architects studying Greek and Roman building. The plates give measured engravings of Ionic capitals, entablatures and carved acanthus blocks recorded in Roman churches with Latin location captions, alongside letterpress woodcut ornaments of scrolled foliage, flower-filled vases and ribbon-tied garlands usable as headpieces, rules and small spot decorations.
