The reminiscences of a very old man, 1808-1897
Memoir of the mezzotint engraver John Sartain, who left London for Philadelphia in 1830, published by D. Appleton in New York in 1899 for readers of artists' lives and American print history. The plates reproduce tonal engravings and wash views: long terraces of townhouses, church spires over rooftops, crowds and carriages in open squares, and broad flat skies useful as background texture.
