The renaissance of sculpture in Belgium
A survey of nineteenth-century Belgian sculptors by Olivier Georges Destr\u00e9e, translated by Florence Simmonds and published in London and New York in 1895 for English-speaking art students and collectors. Twenty-four halftone plates photograph busts, winged figures and nude groups lit from one side against black grounds, giving designers high-contrast silhouettes, modelled plaster and bronze surfaces, and pedestal shapes to cut out.
