The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics
Rudolph Ackermann's monthly London periodical of art, fashion, manufactures and politics, begun in 1809 and aimed at fashionable middle- and upper-class readers, especially women furnishing houses and ordering clothes. The plates are hand-coloured engravings of seated women in high-waisted muslin gowns, bonnets and ruffs, alongside uncoloured line designs for needlework borders and sprigged motifs usable as repeat patterns, corner ornaments or figure silhouettes.
