The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics
Rudolph Ackermann's monthly London magazine, begun 1809, mixing art, commerce, fashion and politics for a prosperous British readership, with hand-coloured aquatint plates issued to subscribers. The pictures pair street-level views of Regency terraces, squares and public buildings peopled with small walking figures against pale cloud-filled skies with full-length fashion plates of gowns rendered in fine outline and spot colour, giving designers architectural elevations, period costume silhouettes and embroidered border motifs.
