The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics
Rudolph Ackermann's Repository of Arts was a monthly London magazine begun in 1809, mixing fashion, design, and commerce for prosperous British readers, and issued with hand-coloured plates by its staff artists. The pictures run from full-length figures in high-waisted muslin gowns with ruched hems and plumed bonnets to Gothic window tracery in grey-green wash and white neoclassical arabesques of dancing figures on black grounds, giving designers period costume silhouettes, border strips, and ornament motifs.
