The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics
Rudolph Ackermann's monthly London magazine, begun in 1809, carried hand-coloured plates of dress, country seats, furniture and ornament for well-off British readers following fashion and taste. The plates pair single standing figures in Regency gowns, shawls and bonnets, drawn small against blank grounds, with soft-washed views of villas set among trees, giving designers cut-out costume silhouettes and pale landscape vignettes in a limited pastel palette.
