The Repository of arts, literature, commerce, manufactures, fashions and politics
A monthly London miscellany issued by Rudolph Ackermann from 1809, mixing art, commerce, fashion and politics for a prosperous urban readership, and illustrated throughout with hand-coloured aquatints and engravings. The plates run to country houses seen across lawns and framed by trees, and single standing figures in Regency dress, giving designers empire-line gowns with ruffled hems, shawls and long gloves, pale wash skies, and neoclassical facades with columned porticoes.
