A Scottish Gaelic astronomy primer by Duncan Macnair Connell, printed in Edinburgh by Oliver & Boyd in 1857 to explain the solar system and fixed stars to Gaelic-speaking readers. The wood-engraved diagrams show lettered globes with latitude lines and hatched night halves, cone-shaped eclipse shadows drawn between sun, earth and moon, and radiating sun disks, giving designers clean geometric line figures, hatching patterns and ray borders.
