Roman cities in Italy and Dalmatia
An archaeological travel and architecture survey of Roman remains in Italy and the Dalmatian coast, written by the American art historian Arthur L. Frothingham and published in New York by Sturgis & Walton in 1910 for educated travellers and students of classical antiquity. The plates are halftone photographs of weathered masonry — arched city gates, blind arcades, tiers of pilasters, carved acanthus capitals and moulding profiles — printed in coarse grey screens that give usable stone textures, arch silhouettes and ornament details.
