Roman days
Viktor Rydberg's essays on Rome, its imperial portrait sculpture and the legends of Peter and Paul, translated from Swedish and issued by Putnam in New York in 1887 for general readers of classical travel writing. The plates are tonal engravings of antique marbles — the Antinous relief of the Villa Albani, heads on plinths, a draped standing figure — modelled in dense cross-hatching against plain or lightly shaded grounds, useful for cut-out statuary, profile heads and drapery studies.
