Caroli Ruaei e Societate Jesu Carminum libri quatuor
Four books of Latin verse by the Jesuit poet Charles de la Rue, printed in Paris by Simon Benard in 1680 for a learned Latin-reading public, with engraved emblems by Louis Coquin and Gerard Edelinck. The plates are oval and cartouche-framed emblem scenes with Latin mottoes on scrolls: a radiant sun face over clouds, a phoenix burning in its nest, armour hung on a tree trunk, drapery and oak-leaf borders, all in fine hatched line suitable for cutting out as frames, medallions, or standalone symbols.
