Rural residences: consisting of a series of designs for cottages, decorated cottages, small villas, and other ornamental buildings
A pattern book of house designs by London architect John Buonarotti Papworth, issued by Rudolph Ackermann in 1818 for landowners and builders commissioning cottages, decorated cottages and small villas. Hand-coloured aquatints pair each building with an engraved ground plan below, giving pale rendered walls, mullioned and Gothic windows, and soft washes of lawn, shrubbery and massed trees usable as plan diagrams or landscape vignettes.
