A French mathematical review journal issued from 1870 by Gauthier-Villars in Paris under the Ministère de l'éducation nationale, written for academic mathematicians and astronomers. The plates are letterpress equations and line diagrams: summation and integral expressions in heavy type, overlapping closed curves labelled with small integers, and intersecting arcs marked with points, usable as abstract linework, technical ornament, or typographic texture.
