Saint-Pétersbourg
A volume on Saint Petersburg by the French art historian Louis Réau, published in Paris by H. Laurens in 1913 for the "Villes d'art célèbres" series of illustrated topographical art guides. The plates are halftone photographs of the city's Baroque and Neoclassical fabric — triumphal arches, palace façades, canal embankments and cast-iron railings — shot flat and frontally in grey tones, useful for column orders, grille patterns and empty-street urban backdrops.
