Salem witchcraft : comprising More wonders of the invisible world / collected by Robert Calef ; and Wonders of the invisible world / by Cotton Mather ; together with notes and explanations by Samuel P. Fowler
A 19th-century American reprint of two 1690s Salem witchcraft tracts—Robert Calef's More Wonders of the Invisible World and Cotton Mather's Wonders of the Invisible World—edited with notes by Samuel P. Fowler and issued at Salem, Massachusetts, in 1861 for antiquarians and local historians. The plates are square woodcut initial letters in imitation of early printing: white letterforms on dense stippled grounds, framed and filled with scrolling foliage, corner buds, and a grotesque beast, usable as drop caps, monograms, or texture swatches.
