Samuel Cooper and the English miniature painters of the XVII century
A study and catalogue of Samuel Cooper and his contemporaries in English portrait miniature, written by the collector-scholar Joshua James Foster and issued in London by Dickinsons in 1914 for collectors, dealers and art historians. The plates are soft-toned halftones of oval miniatures: head-and-shoulders sitters in long curled wigs, lace cravats and armour, set in plain dark ovals on pale paper, useful as ready-made portrait vignettes, oval frame shapes and low-contrast grey texture.
