Samuel F.B. Morse; his letters and journals
A two-volume edition of Samuel F. B. Morse's correspondence and diaries, assembled by his son Edward Lind Morse and published by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and New York in 1914 for readers interested in the telegraph and in Morse's earlier career as a painter. The plates are halftone reproductions of oil portraits, including sitters in high stocks and clerical bands and a mother-and-child group, printed soft and dark with heavy shadow and little edge detail, useful for muted period faces, oval vignette frames, and low-contrast grey backgrounds.
