A collection of Clare Victor Dwiggins's newspaper comic panels, issued by Harper in New York in 1919 for a general American readership amused by small-town boyhood. Pen-and-ink single panels crowd boys in knickers, caps and striped stockings against rail fences, bare trees and distant schoolhouses, with hand-lettered dialect speech balloons, scrappy dogs and loose hatching designers can lift for lettering, vignettes and rural spot art.
