The school of the heart : or, The heart of itself gone away from God, brought back again to him, and instructed by him
An 1808 Bristol reprint of the emblem verses long credited to Francis Quarles but written by Christopher Harvey, issued by J. Lansdown & J. Mills for devotional readers. Small square copperplate emblems signed Johnson show a haloed winged child and a robed soul acting on a large heart in bare landscapes with hatched skies, offering compact figure vignettes, radiating-wing silhouettes and isolated heart motifs.
