The school of the heart : or, The heart of itself gone away from God, brought back again to Him; and instructed by Him. With The learning of the heart; and Hieroglyphics of the life of man.
A Victorian reprint of Christopher Harvey's emblem verses, drawn from Benedictus van Haeften's Schola cordis and paired with Francis Quarles, printed in London for Thomas Tegg in 1845 for devotional readers. The 64 wood-engraved plates stage a winged child and a robed soul handling a heart in flat landscapes, with ruled skies, radiating haloes and tufted foreground grass useful as compact allegorical vignettes.
