The school of Madrid
A survey of seventeenth-century Madrid painters by Spanish art historian and painter Aureliano de Beruete y Moret, issued in London and New York in 1909 for collectors and students of Spanish art. The 46 halftone plates reproduce dark oil paintings — court portraits in black dress, crowded religious scenes, battle and surrender groups — useful for silhouetted figures, heavy tonal masses and plate captions.
