School sewing based on home problems
A 1916 sewing manual by Ida Robinson Burton and Myron Garfield Burton, published in Muncie, Indiana, for schoolgirls learning stitches and garment construction through household tasks. Halftone photographs show fabric swatches on black grounds — hems, seams, buttonholed plackets, gathered ruffles, numbered pattern pieces and finished cases — giving designers high-contrast cloth textures, stitch diagrams and numbered instructional plates.
