The science of beauty, as developed in nature and applied in art
A treatise on proportion and aesthetics by the Edinburgh decorator-theorist David Ramsay Hay, published by Blackwood in 1856 for artists, architects and design students. The plates are fine-line geometric constructions in which vase and urn profiles emerge from grids of circles, arcs and diagonals, offering ready-made armatures, lattice overlays and lettered construction diagrams for layout or linework.
