Scientific American, Vol. 5, No. 11 (September 1861)
A weekly issue of Scientific American from September 1861, published in New York for inventors, patent agents and mechanics during the first year of the Civil War. The wood engravings are labelled figure diagrams in fine hatched line: sectioned artillery shells, finned projectiles, gun-carriage mechanisms and bolted machine castings, useful as technical line ornament, cutaway motifs and lettered callout conventions.
