Scientific American, Vol. 9, No. 23 (December 1863)
A December 1863 issue of the weekly Scientific American, published by Munn & Co. in New York as a patent and mechanics' journal for inventors, machinists and manufacturers. The wood engravings show patented hardware in three-quarter view with letter keys and ruled shading: self-closing lattice farm gates with springs and pulleys, a sectioned door knob and latch, a hinged sheep feeding trough with two sheep at it, useful for lattice patterns, hatched shadow textures and labelled mechanical diagrams.
