1865 · 13 pictures

An issue of Scientific American from July 1865, a New York weekly reporting new United States patents and mechanical improvements for inventors, manufacturers and general readers. The wood engravings show machine parts and fittings in section, elevation and perspective — a hand-pump lever, a mortise lock cut open, a bracket joint, a bladed turbine on its frame — with keyed letters, hatched shading and cutaway dotted lines usable as technical ornament, spot figures or diagram borrowings.
