Scientific American, Vol. 74, No. 17 (April 1896)

1896 · 26 pictures

An issue of the weekly New York science-and-invention paper Scientific American, published by Munn & Co. in April 1896 for inventors, engineers, manufacturers and general readers. The plates are wood-engraved machine views and early halftone photographs — gear trains, winding drums, pipe and valve fittings, a typewriter — shown in three-quarter view or cut section with stippled shadow, useful for isolated mechanical silhouettes and diagram labelling with numbered parts.
