Scientific American, Vol. 89, No. 13 (September 1903)
An issue of the weekly technical magazine Scientific American, published in New York by Munn & Co. in September 1903 for inventors, engineers and general readers following new patents and machinery. The plates are coarse-screened halftone photographs of hardware shot head-on against plain grounds — an automobile front with lamps and radiator, desk typewriters, hands at a keyboard, an open clock movement of gears and coiled springs — usable as high-contrast silhouettes and mechanical detail.
