Inside Out Library

Scientific amusements; for the old and the young, the grave and the gay

Chapman, C. C, Marian S. Carson Collection (Library of Congress) DLC · 1844 · Philadelphia, Stereotyped by S. D. Wyeth · 66 pictures

A parlour puzzle and recreations book compiled by C. C. Chapman, stereotyped by S. D. Wyeth in Philadelphia in 1844 for family readers of all ages. The plates are solid black wood-engraved silhouettes built from tangram-like triangles and squares — arrows, chevrons, bow-tie parallelograms and blocky figures — on cream paper, useful as hard-edged geometric marks, directional symbols and pattern units.
