The scientific papers of James Prescott Joule
Collected physics papers of James Prescott Joule, issued in two volumes by Taylor and Francis in London in 1884 for the Physical Society and its research readership. The plates are line-engraved apparatus diagrams — thermometer tubes, valves, glass vessels clamped through tank walls, letter-keyed parts — offering thin-stroke sectional linework, hatched cutaways and italic reference lettering usable as technical ornament.
