Scipionis Gonzagae Cardinalis Commentariorum rerum suarum libri tres
Latin memoirs of Cardinal Scipione Gonzaga (1542-1593), printed posthumously in Rome by Salomoni in 1791 for scholarly and antiquarian readers. The copperplate work runs to square historiated initials set in vaulted interiors and colonnades, oval emblem vignettes with lettered mottoes and a chariot drawn by horses, and a plate of a framed wall monument with portrait bust, inscription tablet and coat of arms - useful for initial sets, medallion frames and classical architectural detail.
