Sculptura : carmen
Sculptura: carmen is a Latin didactic poem on sculpture by the Jesuit teacher Louis Doissin, printed in Paris by Pierre-Gilles Le Mercier in 1757 for a learned, Latin-reading audience. The pictures are the book's letterpress ornaments: small rococo tailpieces of scrolled acanthus and shell forms, dotted strapwork, flower sprays rising from foliate bases, and a rayed rosette built from repeated type flowers, all usable as spot decorations, section breaks, or borders.
