The seal, the arms and the flag of Rhode Island
A short antiquarian study by Howard M. Chapin, printed in 1913 for the Rhode Island Historical Society in Providence, tracing the state's official seal, coat of arms, and flag for historians and heraldry researchers. The plates are halftone photographs of wax and metal seal impressions: a foul anchor in a shield or oval, the word HOPE on a ribbon, beaded and rope borders, acanthus scrollwork, and dated Latin legends useful as emblem and border models.
