Pine, John B., 1857- · 1915 · New York : G. P. Putnam's Sons · 13 pictures

A civic report by John B. Pine, issued in New York by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1915 for the committee marking the 250th anniversary of the city's first mayor and aldermen, documenting the history of New York's seal and the newly adopted city flag. The plates give repeated versions of the same heraldic device—eagle, windmill sails, flour barrels, beavers, a colonist and a Lenape figure flanking the shield, ringed by the legend SIGILLUM CIVITATIS NOVI EBORACI and the date 1664—in line engraving, woodcut, and photographed relief, useful as ready-made roundel and emblem artwork.
