A select collection of drawings from curious antique gems : most of them in the possession of the nobility and gentry of this kingdom : etched after the manner of Rembrandt
A connoisseur's plate book of antique engraved gems in British private collections, etched by Thomas Worlidge in imitation of Rembrandt's manner and published in London in 1768 for collectors and antiquaries. Each plate isolates one oval or round stone against dense hatching: profile heads of gods, rulers and women, with beaded rims, scale bars and heavy cast shadow available as ready-made medallion frames.
