Salomon Neugebauer's Selectorum symbolorum heroicorum centuria gemina, printed by Lucas Jennis at Frankfurt in 1619, is a Latin collection of two hundred heroic devices compiled for princes, scholars and heraldic readers. Each page carries a small round woodcut ringed by a motto: crowned eagles, crossed swords and sceptres, a winged figure astride a starred globe, wrestling soldiers, all in hard parallel-line hatching suited to badges, seals and circular monograms.
