Self-instructor : the child's first drawing book, containing all the pictures on Andrews' noiseless drawing slates for schools and families.
A children's drawing copybook issued in 1878 by A.H. Andrews & Co. of Chicago, reproducing on paper the copy designs printed on the firm's noiseless school slates for classroom and home practice. The plates are white outline drawings on a black slate ground, many with dashed centre lines and construction guides, covering stylized lotus, papyrus and palmette ornament as well as simple objects — a ready source of chalk-line motifs and step-by-step geometric scaffolding.
