The self-instructor in silk knitting, crocheting and embroidery
An 1884 instruction manual issued by the silk thread manufacturer Belding Bros. & Co. of New York, teaching home needleworkers to knit, crochet and embroider with its silks. The engravings show finished edgings, scalloped shawl borders, tassels and stitch diagrams rendered as dense hatched line work, giving designers repeatable scallop and lace motifs, fringe details and textile textures for borders and pattern fills.
