Seven centuries of lace

Pollen, Maria Margaret La Primaudaye, d. 1919 · 1908 · London, W. Heinemann; New York, The Macmillan company · 119 pictures

A collector's survey of European lace from the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries, written by Maria Margaret Pollen and published in London and New York in 1908 for connoisseurs, collectors and lacemakers. Photographic plates show borders and flounces against black grounds, so mesh, scallop and floral sprig read as white line on dark, usable as tiled patterns, edgings and openwork textures.
