The seven lamps of architecture

Ruskin, John, 1819-1900 · 1907 · London, G. Allen · 14 pictures

John Ruskin's 1907 London edition of his architectural treatise, issued by George Allen for Victorian readers and students of Gothic building. The plates are Ruskin's own etched and engraved studies of cathedral fragments — cusped arches, carved capitals, tracery roundels, crockets and gable finials — drawn in dense hatching against dark grounds, useful as ornament reference or high-contrast architectural detail.
