A graded sewing manual by Idabelle McGlauflin, published in 1918 by the Manual Arts Press in Peoria, Illinois, for teachers running needlework classes for girls in city and rural schools. The plates are photographs of cloth samples on dark grounds: pale thread stitched into dashes, chains, loops and crosses across black felt, plus hemmed linen, tucks and drawn-thread borders, giving high-contrast line marks and geometric edge patterns.
