The Seven Food Colors

Chandler, Charles Frederick, 1836-1925 · 1907 · 7 pictures

A 1907 scrapbook of printed pages on the seven coal-tar dyes permitted in American food, assembled by New York chemist Charles Frederick Chandler for the Department of Agriculture's food inspection work. Pages carry letterpress text broken by hand-inked benzene-ring structural formulas, reaction schemes and marginal corrections in red and black, usable as chemical diagram stock or aged technical-page texture.
