Jubilee of the Discovery of Mauve and of the Foundation of the Coal-Tar Colour Industry
A commemorative volume issued by the Perkin Memorial Committee in 1906 to mark fifty years since William Henry Perkin's discovery of mauve and the start of the coal-tar dye industry, compiled by Raphael Meldola and colleagues for chemists and industry guests. Halftone plates show portrait photographs in oval vignettes, panoramic views of dye works and factory chimneys, and speech pages in dense letterpress; the gilt-stamped mauve cloth cover gives a ruled frame and centred display lettering.
