The Painter's Methods and Materials
A. P. Laurie's 1926 technical manual on paint chemistry and picture conservation, published in Philadelphia by J. B. Lippincott for painters, restorers and students of materials. The plates are halftone photomicrographs: cracked mastic varnish, pigment particles in polarised light, and cross-sections through old paint films, giving designers high-contrast circular fields of speckle, craquelure and granular texture.
