A 1912 dyers' sample manual issued by Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedrich Bayer & Co. of Elberfeld for trade dyers working wool, cotton, silk and mixed fibres with the firm's synthetic colours. Pages carry grids of mounted dyed cloth swatches, each numbered and captioned with the dye name and recipe, giving flat and textured colour fields in madder reds, sulphur blacks, indigo blues, ochres and violets usable as palettes, swatch-grid layouts and captioned specimen charts.
